Pet-Friendly Family Hotels in Tallinn (Tested with Dog and Kids)

5 family-friendly hotels with pet friendly in Tallinn . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Travelling to Tallinn with the kids and the dog is more practical than most European capitals because the city is small, mostly flat and ringed with parks. Pets are a normal part of Estonian life: hotels keep bowls and baskets at reception, the medieval Old Town has cobbles a small dog handles fine, and the seafront promenade at Pirita gives you four kilometres of off-lead running. The five hotels below all confirmed pet policies on our last check, with the daily fee, the size limit and what comes with the room. Three are in the Old Town for short walks to playgrounds, two are a tram ride out for cheaper rates and bigger green space.

Tallinn carries itself like a small town that happens to have UNESCO walls and trams. The Old Town empties after 8pm and stays empty until breakfast, which means morning dog walks on Town Hall Square are mostly you, your kids and a couple of cleaners. The Estonian relationship with pets is matter-of-fact: dogs come into cafes and parks without fuss, but you need to carry bags and use them.

🐕Why Tallinn Works for Families Travelling with a Dog

First reason: distances are short. From any of the five hotels below the closest park is under ten minutes on foot, which matters when a four-year-old needs the toilet and the dog needs a wee at the same time. Second: the cobbles in the Old Town are real medieval stones, uneven but spaced wide enough that paws and pram wheels both manage.

Third: Estonian hotels have written pet policies on their websites, with the fee, size limit and rules visible before you book — no awkward email threads. Fourth: vets are easy to find, English-speaking and pricing is moderate.

Fifth: the public transport system accepts dogs and is cheap, so a tram ride out to Kadriorg Park or a bus to Pirita beach is realistic with a pram, a kid and a dog on a lead.

Parent's take

What surprised us most: nobody minded the dog being a dog. He barked at a flock of pigeons in front of the Russian Embassy and an old lady with a Pomeranian laughed and waved. The four-year-old wanted to hold the lead the whole trip and the cobbles were forgiving enough that we let her, with a parent's hand never more than two metres away.

Schlössle occupies a row of 13th and 14th-century merchants' houses on Pühavaimu Street, two minutes from Town Hall Square. The spa is small but characterful — a stone-walled sauna, hammam steam room and hot tub tucked into the medieval cellar, plus a relaxation lounge with a fireplace.

Why families love Schlössle Hotel - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Schlössle works for families with older kids who appreciate the historic-building atmosphere — the under-fives get a bit lost in the dim hallways and the cellar spa has steep stairs. Family suites have proper second bedrooms, free cots on request, and the staff are quietly excellent: ours brought up a kettle, milk and a children's book on a tray on the second night without being asked.

Novotel Tallinn sits on Poordi street in the modern downtown, a five-minute flat walk from the Old Town walls and three minutes from Rotermann Quarter restaurants. The chain's standard family-friendly setup applies (sofa beds, family rooms, free for under-16s sharing) plus a clear pet policy: 25 EUR per night for one small or medium dog with a bed and bowl ready in the room.

Why families love Novotel Tallinn

Novotel runs the operation that international parents are used to, which is half the appeal when you're juggling a dog, a pram and a tired toddler. We arrived with the Lab in a soft crate and the front desk had a basket and bowl in the room before we'd unpacked. Family rooms have actual two-room layouts (we paid 30 EUR more for one) which means the dog can sleep in the parent zone away from the kids' bunk beds.

Hilton Tallinn Park

Modern Centre (Kreutzwaldi)

Wonderful

9.1

Hilton Tallinn Park overlooks Hirvepark, which is the unsung win for dog-owning families: 30 metres from reception you're on grass with off-lead zones and a duck pond. The hotel itself is the largest of the five (over 200 rooms) with a 17th-floor pool and spa, an arcade-style kids zone and a clear pet policy of 30 EUR per night for one dog up to 25kg.

Why families love Hilton Tallinn Park

Hilton is the easiest of the five for actual operations. The lift is big enough for a pram and a Labrador together, the breakfast room handles a toddler meltdown without a fuss, and the receptionist gave us a printed map of dog-allowed cafes within ten minutes. Hirvepark across the road is the killer feature though — we did three off-lead runs there before checkout and the kids did the same with footballs and scooters.

Hotel Telegraaf, Autograph Collection - 5-star hotel in Old Town (Vene Street), Tallinn - photo 1

Telegraaf occupies a 19th-century post and telegraph building on Vene Street, three minutes from Town Hall Square inside the Old Town walls. Pet policy is 25 EUR per night with bowl and basket, and the hotel is among the few 5-stars in the centre that openly welcomes dogs in the rooms (not just the lobby).

Why families love Hotel Telegraaf, Autograph Collection

Telegraaf is the splurge option of the five and it earns the price for families who want hotel-as-experience: courtyard with a fountain the kids will throw coins into, spa with proper pool (kids allowed at set hours), and a doorman who walked our dog around the block while we got the toddler into pyjamas. Avoid in mid-summer if your kids nap early — the courtyard restaurant runs until 11pm and the windows facing it carry the noise.

My City Hotel

Old Town (Vana-Posti)

Excellent

8.9

My City Hotel sits on Vana-Posti street at the southern edge of the Old Town, four minutes from Freedom Square and two from the medieval walls. Pet policy is 15 EUR per stay (not per night) for one small or medium dog with a bed and bowls in the room — among the cheapest in the centre and the only one we found that caps the fee per stay.

Why families love My City Hotel

My City is the value pick for families on a longer trip because the per-stay pet fee compounds nicely over a week. Rooms are smaller than the chain hotels but the family rooms have a separate kid area with bunk beds, the breakfast hits the basics for fussy kids (pancakes, sausages, fruit), and the location is quieter than rooms facing Town Hall Square.

💡Five Tips When Booking a Pet-Friendly Hotel in Tallinn

  • 1Confirm the daily pet fee in writing before arrival. Most Tallinn hotels charge between 10 and 25 EUR per night and the receptionist will confirm by email if you ask, which avoids the awkward bill discussion at checkout in front of the kids.
  • 2Pack the dog's regular food. Tallinn has good pet shops but most are 15 minutes by tram from the Old Town, and a stressed dog in a new hotel room is not the moment to switch brands. A two-week visit fits in a small ziplock if you portion ahead.
  • 3Choose a ground-floor room or low-floor room near a stairwell exit. Hotels in old buildings often have small lifts and a panicked Labrador in a tiny lift is not what you need at 7am when the kids need breakfast and the dog needs grass.
  • 4Plan the airport route. Tallinn Airport is 4km from the centre and pet taxis exist but Bolt accepts dogs in carriers and most cars (drivers vary, so message first). Trams from the airport accept dogs and the journey is 20 minutes to the Old Town.
  • 5Walk the route to the closest park before unpacking. Hirvepark, Toompark, Kadriorg and Pirita all have off-lead zones and rubbish bins, but the first walk is calmer if you have already scouted it without the kids in tow.
