Tallinn Hotels with Beach Access for Families
5 family-friendly hotels with beach access in Tallinn . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Tallinn surprises parents the first time they realise the city has actual beaches. Pirita Beach is a 2 kilometre stretch of soft sand 10 minutes from the city centre by bus, and Stroomi Beach on the west side is just as quiet, with shallow water that warms up to 22 degrees in July. None of the five hotels here sit directly on sand, but all are inside the Tallinn city centre with quick public transport links or a 15-minute drive to the nearest beach. You get a UNESCO medieval Old Town in the morning and Baltic Sea swimming in the afternoon, which no other Northern European capital can match.
Tallinn is the quietest of the European capitals. The UNESCO Old Town has city walls dating from the 13th century, cobblestone streets, marzipan shops, and almost no crowds outside of cruise ship hours. Affordable food, English everywhere, and a tech-savvy population that built Skype and now runs an e-government most countries envy. Families with babies and toddlers find the pace perfect.

🏖️Why Tallinn is an Underrated Beach Break
Pirita Beach is the main draw. 2 kilometres long, fine pale sand, and a forested park immediately behind for cooler picnic spots. The water of the Gulf of Finland gets to a swimmable 18 to 22 degrees in July and August. Lifeguards on duty from late June to mid-August. Beach café, ice cream kiosks, and a 5-minute walk to the Pirita Yacht Marina where you can rent a kayak.
Stroomi Beach is the local secret. 15 minutes by tram (line 2) from the city centre, much smaller crowd than Pirita, even on the hottest weekend. Shallow water and a long sandy stretch. There's a children's water playground installed in 2022, free to use, with shallow paddling areas and small slides. Both beaches are 100 percent free, which beats every Mediterranean resort beach we've used.
Parent's take
What sells Tallinn to parents is the value. Hotels are 30 percent cheaper than Helsinki across the sea. Beaches are free. Old Town walkable in under an hour. And you can get from your hotel room to the beach in 20 minutes flat, which is faster than most Spanish beach resorts where you walk 15 minutes to the shoreline through your own resort. Punching well above its weight.

Why families love Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn
Radisson Collection was the upgrade we didn't know we needed. View from the 22nd floor at sunset over the Old Town spires made our 8 year old gasp, which doesn't happen often. Pool was small but heated and quiet in the early evenings. Concierge organised a Pirita day with bus tickets, beach umbrella rental tip, and lunch recommendation at a kid-friendly café 50 metres from the sand. Smooth.

Why families love Movenpick Hotel Tallinn
Movenpick's indoor pool turned a borderline drizzly afternoon into the best part of the trip. Kids in the warm pool for an hour, parents in the sauna, back to the beach the next morning when the sun returned. Family room had a separate kids' nook with bunk beds and a TV, which we used precisely once because they were too busy at the pool. Free bike rental got us along the seaside path to Pirita in 20 minutes flat.

Why families love Hotel Telegraaf, Autograph Collection
Hotel Telegraaf made our kids feel like they were sleeping inside a museum. The Old Town location meant we walked everywhere within the historic walls, including the marzipan museum and the medieval pharmacy. Indoor pool was decent for an evening swim after a beach day at Pirita. Sauna was lovely. The kids' breakfast plate had Estonian pancakes that they ate every single morning. Worth the price.

Why families love Nordic Hotel Forum
The rooftop pool was the dealbreaker. After a full day on Pirita Beach, the kids swam another hour with a view of medieval church spires from the 11th floor. That memory will be the highlight of the trip for them. Family room comfortably fit four with a real separation between parent and kid sleeping areas. Breakfast had a kids' corner with chocolate sprinkles, juice from concentrate, and toast they could decorate themselves.

200 reviews
Metropol Spa Hotel is a 4-star spa-focused property with multiple pools, family rooms, and 11 minutes by bus to Pirita Beach. The on-site water and spa centre includes a kids' shallow pool, sauna, steam room, and ice fountain that fascinates everyone under 10.

Why families love Metropol Spa Hotel
Metropol Spa was the secret bargain. Same big rooms as the 5-stars at half the price, plus a proper spa complex with three pools including a kids' shallow pool. Our 6 year old swam every evening, the warmth of the pool kept the post-beach chill away. Old Town is a 10-minute walk and bus 1A to Pirita stops 100 metres from the front door. Great value, less posh than the 5-stars but more practical.
💡Beach Tips for Families in Tallinn
- 1Take bus 1A or 8 to Pirita from Viru Bus Stop. The journey is 10 to 12 minutes, costs 2 euros per adult one way with the Smartcard (kids under 7 free), and drops you 200 metres from the sand. Driving is slower in summer because of the marina traffic, public transit is genuinely faster.
- 2Pack water shoes for both beaches. Pirita has occasional rocks where the wave-line meets the sand, and Stroomi has a few shell fragments. Kids in flip flops have meltdowns; water shoes solve it instantly. Decathlon Tallinn near Mustamäe sells children's pairs for 8 euros if you forgot to bring them from home.
- 3Visit the Estonian Open Air Museum before or after Stroomi Beach. It's 7 minutes by car from the beach and shows 80 reconstructed traditional buildings spread over forest paths. Kids can milk a wooden cow, ride in a horse-drawn cart, and meet farm animals. Great rainy-day backup, indoor barns included.
- 4Eat at Lido in Solaris Centre on a rainy beach day. It's a buffet-style restaurant with kid-friendly Estonian and international food, free play area, and no judgement on toddler chaos. Around 12 euros per adult, 7 euros per kid. Three blocks from most central hotels and right next to the Estonian opera if you want a culture moment.
- 5Combine Pirita Beach with the Maarjamäe Palace history museum. The palace is a 5-minute walk from the beach and has an interactive children's section about Estonian history. Free for under 8s, 8 euros adults. Total beach plus museum day comes in under 20 euros for a family of four, which is unbeatable value.
