Best Rovinj Family Suite Hotels (2026 Honest Guide)

5 family-friendly hotels with family suite in Rovinj . Handpicked for families who want the best.

You are looking at Rovinj because your kids are too big to share your room and you don't want a self-catering apartment. This page covers the five Rovinj hotels with real family suites: two separate sleeping zones, a door that closes, and ideally two bathrooms. Prices start at 210 EUR/night at Hotel Katarina and go up to 520 EUR/night at Grand Park. Two are on the Monsena-Amarin peninsula (forest, calm coves, 7-minute drive from town), two are island resorts (Katarina, Villas Rubin), one is a six-room boutique in the old town. For families wanting a structured kids club programme instead, check Rovinj hotels with kids club. For pool focus, see Rovinj pool hotels.

Rovinj is a Venetian-flavoured fishing town on the Istrian west coast. The old town is car-free, cobbled, and walkable in 25 minutes end-to-end. Park your car at the Valdibora car park (8 EUR/day) and walk in. Eat at Konoba Veli Joze for octopus and gnocchi, Kantinon for fish carpaccio at the harbour, Sergio Pizza if the kids reject Croatian food. The Monsena beach is shallow and pebble-rocky (water shoes essential), the Lone Bay cove is shaded by Aleppo pines. The Mali Skoj islet swimming spot is a 10-minute walk from town and has shallow flat-rock entries kids actually like.

πŸ›οΈWhy Rovinj makes sense for families needing two bedrooms

Rovinj family suites split into three styles. Resort suites (Grand Park, Amarin Resort, Villas Rubin) are 50-65 square metres with two real bedrooms, two bathrooms, a balcony, and pool/sea access from the building. Island suites (Katarina, on its own islet 10 min by boat) are smaller, 40 sqm, one bathroom, but the boat shuttle is fun and the island ages 4+ run free. Boutique suites (The Melegran in the old town) are 35-50 sqm stone-house apartments in 18th-century buildings, harbour views, but no pool. Pick the style first, hotel second.

The Maistra brand confusion is real. Maistra Hospitality runs 12 hotels in Istria, with three sub-brands you'll see: Grand (5-star luxury, Park Rovinj, Lone), Maistra Collection (4-star upscale, Eden, Amarin Family Hotel, Island Hotel Istra) and Maistra Select (4-star value, Villas Rubin, Amarin Resort, Katarina). They share pools, beaches and shuttles across the Monsena peninsula, so booking Villas Rubin still gets you Grand Park pool day passes for 25 EUR. Ask at check-in.

Family suite bedding is honest at all five picks. Grand Park and Amarin Resort have proper twin beds in the kids room, not a single bed plus a sofa. Villas Rubin has bunk beds for the kids (ages 4-12 only). Katarina has a queen plus a daybed (ages up to 9 ideally). The Melegran has separate bedrooms but the kids room only fits a queen β€” siblings share. Check the room photos before booking, not the marketing text.

Parent's take

We took Villas Rubin in late June with three kids (4, 7, 10). The two-bedroom apartment was 58 sqm with kitchenette, bunk beds for the younger two, and a real bed for the 10-year-old in a curtain-divided corner. The kids ran between the apartment, the pool 30 metres away, and the pebble beach 100 metres further without us moving for four straight afternoons. The 12-minute shuttle to Rovinj town meant zero parking stress.

The Grand Park is Maistra's flagship property and arguably the best resort in Croatia for design-conscious parents. Family suites have separate cot rooms with dimmable lighting and a sound machine pre-set. The infinity pool has a heated baby zone separated by glass at one end. Old town views from the harbour-facing balconies.

Why families love Grand Park Hotel Rovinj by Maistra Collection

Grand Park is genuinely 5-star for families, which is rare. The cot was a Bonacina-style bentwood model rather than a generic travel cot, the room had a separate baby-bath kit including bath seat, and the breakfast had a baby corner with steamed apples ready by 7am. Our 13-month-old was treated as a real guest by the staff. The price is steep but you get a Forte-Village-level experience for less.

The Melegran is a six-suite boutique in a restored 18th-century stone house 90 seconds from the Rovinj harbour, with two-bedroom family suites of 45 to 55 sqm. The kids bedroom has a queen, the main bedroom has a king plus an in-room espresso machine. No pool and no breakfast on site β€” coffee and pastries at the partner cafe Caffe Cosmonaut 60 metres away.

Why families love The Melegran

We took the corner suite on the second floor with the harbour view, room 5. The kids bedroom fits both ours (7 and 10) on the queen with the door closed, and the main bedroom is genuinely separate with stone walls thick enough we could read past 21:30 without waking them. The 4-minute walk to the harbour Konobas was the whole point β€” kids could chase pigeons while we had a Malvazija and grilled sardines. The catch: no balcony, no pool, two flights of stone stairs with a 18kg toddler is a workout.

Katarina is Maistra's island property, on a pine-covered offshore islet five minutes by boat from Rovinj harbour. The setting is gloriously car-free and the resort coves are the calmest on this stretch of coast. Family rooms have cots set up before arrival and a baby-changing room next to the resort lobby.

Why families love Maistra Select Island Hotel Katarina

Katarina is the unusual choice β€” staying on an island feels like a small adventure but with all the resort comforts. The boat ride is 5 minutes, runs every 30 minutes, and accepts strollers without folding. Once on the island there's zero traffic, the coves are sheltered by the headland, and the pine forest goes right to the waterline. Our toddler napped on the boat both ways.

Why families love Maistra Select Amarin Resort

The affordable cousin of the Family Hotel Amarin and a real value pick for families that do not need the four-pool extravaganza. The kids club is the same Maistra programme but smaller in scale. Kitchenette in the room means morning cereal for the kids without paying buffet prices, and the beach is a short walk through the pine forest. Free shuttle to old town runs every 30 minutes.

Why families love Maistra Select Villas Rubin Resort

The truth about Villas Rubin is that the rooms are basic but the activities are the point. The site has mini golf, archery, table tennis, billiards, windsurfing rental, diving, kids club, evening entertainment, and a tennis court. For families with active 8-12 year olds, this is closer to a holiday camp than a resort and the kids leave with new skills. The pavilions feel a bit dated but everything works and the price reflects it.

πŸ’‘Tips for booking a real family suite in Rovinj

  • 1Book the suite category specifically, not 'family room'. On Maistra's site the 4-star resorts list two products: 'Family Room' (one big room, sofa bed for kids) and 'Family Suite' (two bedrooms, door, separate). The price difference is 60-90 EUR a night, worth it for any stay longer than four nights.
  • 2Ask for Building 4 or 5 at Villas Rubin. The complex has 8 buildings across 18 hectares. Buildings 1-3 are closer to the main pool but 200 metres from the beach. Buildings 4-5 are 30 metres from the pebble cove and the back balcony catches the sea breeze in the afternoon.
  • 3Use the Maistra inter-resort shuttle if you booked Amarin or Villas Rubin. Free for guests, runs hourly 09:00 to 23:00, stops at Grand Park, Lone, Eden, and the old town pier. Saves the 8 EUR per day Valdibora parking fee and the 15-minute walk uphill in summer heat.
  • 4Book Grand Park's family suite with the pool-view side. The forest-view side faces the staff parking and you hear the bin trucks at 06:30 in summer. The pool view costs 40 EUR extra and the rooms higher than the third floor get the Adriatic horizon over the pines.
  • 5The Melegran has no kitchen and breakfast is at a partner cafe 60 metres away. Fine for couples, painful with toddlers who want toast at 06:45. If you're early risers, pick a resort with in-room breakfast service or skip The Melegran for one of the Maistra resorts.
