Best Dubrovnik Spa Hotels for Families (Tested Prices for 2026)

19 family-friendly hotels with spa & wellness in Dubrovnik . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Dubrovnik's Old Town walls get exhausting with kids after two days. The stone streets radiate heat, there's no shade, and by 2pm everyone needs a reset. That's where a good spa hotel earns its money. Five Dubrovnik hotels between 203 and 765 EUR/night give families proper wellness facilities: indoor pools, saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis where you can decompress while kids splash next door. Three cluster on the Lapad Peninsula (flat, walkable, calmer than Old Town), one sits right outside Pile Gate, and one is a full resort in Orasac 12 km north. All confirmed on Booking.com with summer 2026 prices. If you also want direct beach access in Dubrovnik, we covered that separately. Looking for year-round swimming instead? See our indoor pool hotels in Dubrovnik.

Lapad is where most family spa hotels sit. Bus 6 from Old Town takes 15 minutes, runs until 11pm, costs 15 HRK (about 2 EUR). The peninsula has a flat seafront promenade lined with ice cream shops and casual restaurants where a family pizza dinner costs 40-50 EUR. Old Town is spectacular but brutal with kids: cobblestones, crowds from cruise ships (up to 8 ships daily in July), and steep stairs everywhere. Base in Lapad, visit Old Town for half-days. Gruz market (the local farmers' market near the port) opens 6am-1pm and sells fresh fruit, cheese, and bread for picnic lunches. Cable car to Srd Hill costs 27 EUR for a family of four and gives the best Dubrovnik panorama. If you are combining a Dalmatian coast trip, spa hotels in Split are a 4-hour drive north and tend to be 30% cheaper.

🧖Why Dubrovnik works so well for a family spa break

Most Dubrovnik spa hotels offer indoor pools alongside outdoor ones. This matters because Dubrovnik gets windy, particularly on the Lapad Peninsula where the maestral (northwest wind) picks up around 3pm in summer. An indoor pool means kids stay occupied even on gusty afternoons. Valamar Lacroma has both indoor and outdoor pools plus a dedicated kids pool. Sun Gardens goes further with 3 outdoor pools. The Hilton Imperial sticks to indoor only but compensates with a prime location 50 metres from Pile Gate.

Spa access for children varies by hotel. Valamar Lacroma and Sun Gardens let kids use the pool areas freely but restrict sauna and steam rooms to ages 16+. Hotel Kompas allows accompanied children in most spa areas except the sauna. Hotel Adria keeps things simple with a spa open to all ages during family hours (9am-1pm). If your children are under 6, Sun Gardens is the safest bet because their dedicated kids pool sits separate from the spa area, so you can alternate between watching the kids and ducking into the steam room.

Hotel prices in Dubrovnik spike sharply in July and August. The same room at Hotel Adria costs 140 EUR in June but 203 EUR in July. If your school calendar allows, the last two weeks of June offer the same 28-29 degree weather at roughly 30% lower prices. September is another sweet spot. The sea stays swimmable until mid-October. If you want a shorter city-spa break before or after Croatia, Porto's spa hotels are a good complement with lower prices and direct flights from most European cities.

Parent's take

We spent five nights at Valamar Lacroma last July and the spa saved us. The first two days we did Old Town, city walls, cable car, the whole tourist circuit. By day three the kids were done walking. Having an indoor pool and a steam room meant we could split shifts. One parent in the spa, one at the kids pool, swap after an hour. The evenings on the Lapad promenade were the highlight though. Just walking, gelato, watching boats come in. Dubrovnik is stunning but it's physically demanding with children. The hotel became our recovery base.

9.6

Hotel Sumratin sits on the Lapad peninsula with two clay courts tucked between pine trees and the wellness centre. The building leans modest mid-century rather than glossy resort, which keeps the rates honest, and there's a sandy-pebble cove three minutes downhill.

Why families love Hotel Sumratin

We rebooked in March for a fortnight in May because the courts here are quieter than the bigger resorts and the staff actually remember the kids' names by day three. Coaching is informal but solid; both our boys (7 and 10) had hour-long lessons with a Croatian ex-college player who pushed them just enough. The pool is small, fine for a quick splash but not a day in. Walk to the main Lapad beach takes maybe 6 minutes. Half-board food is heavy on grilled fish, which suited us, less so the picky eater.

Hotel Kompas has Dubrovnik's highest guest rating at **9.4** and one of its most complete spa setups: indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and a full massage menu covering back, neck, head, and foot treatments. The hotel overlooks **Lapad Bay** with an outdoor deck that catches the evening sun.

Why families love Hotel Kompas

We booked Kompas for the rating and weren't disappointed. The indoor pool was big enough for the kids to actually swim, not just paddle. I got a 50-minute back massage that was genuinely excellent. The location on Lapad Bay is prime, with restaurants and the beach promenade right outside. Expensive, yes. But the spa alone justified the premium over cheaper Lapad hotels for us.

3#3 Best for Spa & Wellness
Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik waterfront facade and Adriatic Sea view

The Excelsior's indoor pool sits inside a glass-walled spa overlooking the Adriatic, about **12 metres long**, heated to **29°C**. It is not a lap pool but it is large enough for kids to paddle comfortably. The hotel also has a private beach area with a swimming platform. Rooms facing the sea get a direct view of Old Town's walls across the bay.

Why families love Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

We picked the Excelsior because it was the closest indoor pool hotel to Old Town that was not the Hilton price bracket. The walk to Ploce Gate took 10 minutes along the coast road, and the pool area was never crowded because most guests used the beach. Our 7-year-old loved the glass walls that let him watch the boats while floating. Breakfast buffet had a kids section with pancakes and fresh fruit that our picky eater actually ate.

4#4 Best for Spa & Wellness
Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik cliff-top facade overlooking Miramare Bay

Hotel Bellevue occupies a cliff above Miramare Bay in Lapad with both indoor and outdoor pools. The indoor pool is a **10m spa pool** heated to **29°C**, set inside the wellness centre on the lower level. It is compact but well-maintained, with loungers and a steam room adjacent. The private pebble beach below the hotel is accessible by lift.

Why families love Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik

The Bellevue was our favourite pool setup in Dubrovnik. Mornings in the indoor pool before 10am, then down to the beach by lift. The cliff location means every room has sea views, which kept the kids occupied at bedtime staring at the cruise ships. The restaurant terrace hangs over the bay and the kids menu was surprisingly good: grilled fish, not just nuggets. Only downside: the walk to Lapad centre is uphill on the way back.

5#5 Best for Spa & Wellness

Five-star resort 12 km northwest of Dubrovnik on its own stretch of coastline with private beach, kids club, playground, and six restaurants. Why families love Sun Gardens Dubrovnik

This is the resort you pick when you want to avoid Dubrovnik's tourist crowds entirely. The private beach was never crowded even in peak July. Our kids lived in the kids club and the beach, alternating between the two. Six restaurants meant we never repeated a meal. At 370 EUR/night it's premium but not outrageous for a five-star with private beach. The only trade-off: you're 12 km from the Old Town, so visiting requires a taxi (25 EUR each way).

Why families love Rixos Premium Dubrovnik

The cliff-to-beach elevator is genius. No stairs, no climbing, just press a button and you're on the pebbles. The beach itself is well-maintained with a kids-friendly shallow area on the right side. Breakfast was the best we had in Dubrovnik. The spa is adults-only but they offer babysitting so we managed one evening session. At 425 EUR/night it's the most expensive on this list but the location, beach access, and overall polish justify it if beach quality is your priority.

Why families love Berkeley Hotel

Four nights in late May with a 9-year-old who could ride a 24-inch. The free 2-hour daily bike rental was the trip-saver — we did the Lapad promenade after the morning shuttle dropped us off, then returned bikes at 1pm and walked everything else. Skip this hotel if your kids are under 8 (no 20-inch). The 9.2 rating is real; staff knew our kid's name by day two and booked our Lokrum ferry tickets for us. Family room was 32m², two queen beds, no sofa bed.

Why families love Royal Neptun Hotel

The suite we had (Family Sea View) genuinely fits four humans without anyone tripping over a suitcase. Tennis courts are on the property, two clays, both lit, court hire is 12 euros an hour and rackets are 4 euros. Our daughter (8) had a one-on-one with a coach for 30 euros that she still talks about. The cove below the hotel is more swimming-platform than sand, but the water is glass-clear and there's a lifeguard. Five minute walk to the Lapad promenade with all the gelato shops and pizza places.

Why families love Villa Dubrovnik

Honestly this is a special-occasion choice rather than a weekly family stay, but if grandparents are picking up the bill it's stunning. The shuttle solves the dog-and-stairs problem (Dubrovnik has a lot of stairs), the infinity pool is genuinely empty most mornings, and breakfast on the sea-front terrace lets the dog lie under the table. Don't expect a kids' club; do expect attentive babysitting on request.

Worth every cent if Old Town access matters to you. We walked to the city walls in 2 minutes, ducked back to the hotel when the kids melted down, and hit the indoor pool to reset. The spa was small but well-maintained: jacuzzi, sauna, and a steam room. Kids meals at the restaurant were actually good. The only downside: no outdoor pool, so on beach days we took a taxi to Lapad.

Six nights in mid-September with a 5 and 8-year-old. The 5-year-old got a 20-inch bike with stabilizers swapped on within minutes. We did the seafront promenade west to Babin Kuk point (3 km, traffic-free, flat) every other morning before breakfast. The Importanne resort access included two pools — a quieter family one with a kids' splash zone. Family suite had bunks behind a partition. The hotel sun loungers on the rocks were quieter than the public Lapad beaches.

Five nights in early June with a 6 and 9-year-old. The bikes were the trip — 20-inch wheels for our 6-year-old, 24-inch for the 9-year-old, all sized at reception with helmets in 10 minutes. The seafront promenade was 200m from the gate and the kids did the 4 km out-and-back twice a day. Family room was a proper 40m² with sofa bed in a separate alcove. The cliff cave bar at 6pm was the parents' reward after kid bedtime. Hotel kept bikes locked overnight at no extra charge.

The evening kids' club from 6-9pm let us actually do dinner in the Old Town one night without rushing back. Family room genuinely 45m² with bunks for the kids in their own corner. The walk down to Cavtat harbour for the evening ice-cream is a proper 10-minute descent on stone steps — lovely at 7pm, painful coming back up after pasta at 9pm. The Valamar beach complex is the real draw. Three different entry points mean our cautious 5-year-old found a shallow spot while our 8-year-old snorkelled off the platform. Why families love Hotel Adria

We picked the Adria mostly for the price and location. The spa surprised us: a proper sauna, a massage room where my partner got a 40-minute back massage for 45 EUR, and a calm atmosphere even in July. Kids weren't allowed in the sauna but had the garden and nearby Lapad beach. The rooftop terrace at breakfast was the best start to each morning.

💡How to pick the right spa hotel in Dubrovnik with kids

  • 1Book Lapad over Old Town unless your budget allows the Hilton Imperial. Lapad hotels are 40-60% cheaper, have actual pools and spas, and the bus to Old Town is cheap and frequent. Old Town hotels rarely have wellness facilities because the buildings are historic and tiny. For city-centre spas with more space, try the spa hotels in Malaga where prices are lower too.
  • 2Visit the city walls before 9am with kids. Tickets are 35 EUR/adult, free for under-10s. The walk is 2 km with no shade and takes 90 minutes. In July afternoon heat, it's miserable for children. Morning is manageable and less crowded.
  • 3Ask about spa family hours when booking. Most hotels restrict sauna and steam room access to 16+ but may offer dedicated family time slots. Valamar Lacroma runs family spa mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays in summer. For comparison, Vienna spa hotels have more generous kids access policies.
  • 4Skip the cruise ship days for Old Town. Check the port schedule at dubrovnik-port.com. On 6+ ship days (common in July), Old Town gets 10,000+ day visitors. Those are perfect spa days instead.
  • 5Carry cash for the local buses. Dubrovnik buses don't accept cards. A day pass costs 30 HRK (about 4 EUR) per person and covers unlimited rides, including the Lapad to Old Town route. If the Adriatic gets too cold, Nice indoor pool hotels are a short flight away with heated pools year-round.
