Pet-Friendly Family Hotels in Dubrovnik
5 family-friendly hotels with pet friendly in Dubrovnik . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Dubrovnik is more dog-tolerant than you might guess from the cobblestones. Several Lapad hotels accept medium-size dogs in rooms (usually for a small daily fee), the pebble beaches at Lapad and Banje allow leashed dogs in the off-season shoulders, and the city buses take small pets in carriers. The Old Town walls themselves are off-limits to dogs, but the Pile and Ploče gates have shaded benches where one parent can sit with the dog while the other does the wall walk with the kids. Most pet-friendly hotels here are 4 to 5 star; the boutique sub-set in the Old Town is small but excellent.
Dubrovnik runs on two speeds: the Old Town inside the walls is busy from 10am, packed by noon, breathing again after 7pm. The Lapad peninsula, three kilometres west, runs at a slower beach pace all day. Travelling with kids and a dog, you'll want to base yourself on Lapad and only do the Old Town in early morning or late evening, when the lanes are emptier and your dog is welcome at café terraces.
🐕Why Dubrovnik Works for Families with Dogs
Most Lapad hotels here have private or semi-private pebble beaches where dogs are allowed before 8am and after 8pm during summer (locally enforced rather than legally posted). That's a real perk: kids can swim while you walk the dog along the shoreline, then everyone meets back at the towel for breakfast pastries. The hotel pools are not dog-friendly, of course, but the pool deck loungers usually are, especially at hotels that openly market themselves as pet-welcoming.
A second underrated reason: Dubrovnik has the small-city advantage of short distances. The longest walk between hotel and Old Town is 25 minutes flat, mostly along the sea path, no stairs, no crossings. Your dog stays out of taxis and your kids stay out of meltdowns. The Cable Car up to Mount Srđ allows dogs in the cabin (with a muzzle, which they will lend you at the ticket office), and the view at the top is the famous postcard.
Parent's take
What we hear from parents most often: bring more water than you think and pack a fold-up bowl. The limestone radiates heat from 11am to 4pm, and the Old Town in particular has almost no shade. Schedule your dog for the morning sea swim, then keep the afternoon for hotel pool time while the dog naps in the air-conditioned room.

Villa Dubrovnik
Ploče
Wonderful
37 reviews
A 5-star cliff-side villa hotel a five-minute coastal walk from the Ploče gate, accepting small dogs (under 10 kg) by request. Direct sea access from a private platform, an infinity pool over the Adriatic, and a free shuttle that loops to Old Town every 20 minutes.
From
€1575/night
Why families love Villa Dubrovnik
Honestly this is a special-occasion choice rather than a weekly family stay, but if grandparents are picking up the bill it's stunning. The shuttle solves the dog-and-stairs problem (Dubrovnik has a lot of stairs), the infinity pool is genuinely empty most mornings, and breakfast on the sea-front terrace lets the dog lie under the table. Don't expect a kids' club; do expect attentive babysitting on request.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik
Pile Gate, Old Town
Wonderful
939 reviews
The Hilton Imperial sits **50 metres from Pile Gate**, the main entrance to Old Town. The indoor pool and spa include a sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room. It's the only spa hotel within walking distance of the city walls, making it the premium choice for families who want Old Town on their doorstep.
From
€588/night
Why families love Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik
Worth every cent if Old Town access matters to you. We walked to the city walls in 2 minutes, ducked back to the hotel when the kids melted down, and hit the indoor pool to reset. The spa was small but well-maintained: jacuzzi, sauna, and a steam room. Kids meals at the restaurant were actually good. The only downside: no outdoor pool, so on beach days we took a taxi to Lapad.

Valamar Tirena Hotel
Babin Kuk
Excellent
1,111 reviews
Valamar Tirena sits next door to the 1,800 m² Maro World entertainment centre, the largest kids facility in Dubrovnik. Children aged 3-12 get wristband access to gaming rooms, crafts stations, outdoor play equipment, and evening disco nights. Two pools include a shallow kids pool. The hotel was renovated in 2023.
From
€328/night
Why families love Valamar Tirena Hotel
Tirena is the best value kids-club hotel in Dubrovnik. At 328 EUR/night we got a family room for four, direct access to Maro World next door, and two pools. The kids disappeared into Maro World after breakfast and came back sunburnt and happy at lunchtime. The table football tournaments were a daily highlight for our 8-year-old. The hotel itself is simple but clean. Do not expect five-star finishes at a four-star price.

Boutique Hotel Stari Grad
Old Town
Excellent
235 reviews
An eight-room boutique inside the Old Town walls, two minutes from the Stradun, that accepts small dogs on request for an extra fee. The rooftop terrace looks straight at the cathedral domes, and the family room sleeps four with a child sofa-bed.
From
€649/night
Why families love Boutique Hotel Stari Grad
Stari Grad is the rare Old Town stay that takes pets, and the staff actually like dogs (they bring a bowl up to the room). The roof terrace breakfast is the highlight for kids — the Adriatic light on the bell tower at 8am is something they remember for years. Just remember the building is old: there is no lift, and the staircase is narrow.

Valamar Argosy Hotel
Babin Kuk, Lapad
Excellent
1,662 reviews
A pine-shaded 4-star on the Babin Kuk peninsula, 15 minutes by bus from Old Town, with two outdoor pools, a separate kids' pool with mini-slides, and rooms that take dogs up to 25 kg for €18 per night. The pebble cove of Cava is a 4-minute walk through the gardens.
From
€268/night
Why families love Valamar Argosy Hotel
Argosy is the practical pick: not the most stylish on this list, but the value is unbeatable for a family of four with a dog. The grounds are huge (your dog gets a real walk before breakfast without leaving the resort), and the kids' pool has just enough water-park energy without being chaotic. The buffet is solid rather than memorable.
💡Tips for Visiting Dubrovnik with Kids and Your Dog
- 1Book a Lapad hotel with parking included. Old Town parking is nightmare-expensive (€40+ per day) and most pet-friendly hotels include free or discounted on-site parking, which makes day trips up the coast genuinely doable.
- 2Walk the city walls in shifts. Dogs are not allowed on the walls, but tickets are valid for one entry across a 24-hour window. One parent goes with the older kids in early morning, the other does sunset with the toddlers and dog at the Pile gate.
- 3Use the Cable Car for one downhill leg only. Going up with a dog and kids is fine; coming down on foot via the marked path is steep, hot and not stroller-friendly. Cable car both ways saves the day for everyone.
- 4Buy fresh water from the public fountains. Onofrio's Fountain at the Pile gate is drinkable and there are smaller ones along the Stradun. Refill your kid's bottle and the dog bowl at the same time.
- 5Time the beach right. Lapad's pebble coves get crowded by 11am. Dogs are tolerated before 8am and after 8pm in summer, so the family sea-swim window is 8am to 11am, then again from 7pm with sunset light.
