Pet-Friendly Family Hotels in Interlaken
5 family-friendly hotels with pet friendly in Interlaken . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Interlaken has a deep stack of pet-friendly hotels because the Swiss alpine tradition treats dogs the way other countries treat well-behaved kids. Most hotels along Höheweg accept dogs of any size for €15 to €30 per night, several provide pet bowls and a basket on request, and the lakeside walking trails between Interlaken Ost and Lake Thun are the long off-leash type you cannot find at Mediterranean beach resorts. Five hotels below mix small chain (MGallery) with family-run heritage Swiss properties. All are walkable to the train station and the ferry to Brienz and Thun.
Interlaken sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. The town centre is small, walkable and centred on Höhematte, an open meadow that's been protected from building since the 19th century and now serves as the morning dog-walking hub. The two train stations (Ost and West) sit either end of town, both walking distance from the central hotels. The whole town is geared for the day-trip rhythm of cable car up to Schynige Platte or Harder Kulm in the morning, lunch at altitude, descent for swim or ferry in the afternoon.

🐕Why Interlaken is good for pet-and-kid trips
Pet-friendly here means more than tolerated. Most Interlaken hotels in this list have explicit pet policies on their website, listing fee, weight or breed limits, and what's provided. Pet bowls are standard at four of the five below and several keep a pet basket at reception. The trail map for dog walks from the central hotels is well-developed: 1.5 km along the Aare river, 4 km Höhematte loop, or 12 km lake circuit at Thun.
For families, the dog-and-kid combination works because most central hotels are 5 to 10 minutes' walk from both Höhematte park and the funicular up Harder Kulm. Day trips to the Trümmelbach Falls (no dogs) get covered by alternating who walks the dog and who climbs the falls. The Lake Brienz ferry accepts dogs on a leash for €5 per leg, which gives you a half-day expedition that works for kids, parents and dog at the same time.
Parent's take
We took our 7-year-old and our cocker spaniel to Interlaken for five nights in March, based at HEY Hotel. The dog-and-kid combo is genuinely easy here: morning walk on Höhematte before breakfast, ferry to Brienz with the dog as a half-day expedition, and the kid was happy because the dog was happy.

Hotel Metropole is a four-star high-rise on Höheweg with pet-friendly rooms at €25 per night and views of the Jungfrau from the upper floors. Top-floor sauna, family rooms in two configurations (interconnecting or queen-with-bunks), and a ground-floor bistro that allows dogs at the outdoor tables.
From
€833/night
Why families love Hotel Metropole Interlaken
Four nights in February with our 5 and 8-year-old and a 14-kg labrador-mix. The Metropole's height (18 floors) gives views of the Jungfrau from upper rooms — kids loved waking up to the snow peak. The pet-friendly rooms are concentrated on floors 2 to 5, all with hardwood floors, no carpet damage worry. The bistro outdoor tables let us eat with the dog. Pet fee €25 included a dog-friendly welcome bag with a treat and a city map of dog-walking routes.

Hotel Weisses Kreuz
Höheweg
Very Good
320 reviews
Hotel Weisses Kreuz is a three-star family-run heritage property on Höheweg with pet-friendly rooms at €20 per night. Family-style restaurant on site, a small terrace and easy access to Höhematte park. Smaller hotel format than the four-star options, which usually means quieter dog stays.
From
€966/night
Why families love Hotel Weisses Kreuz
Five nights in summer with our 6-year-old and a 18-kg golden retriever. The Weisses Kreuz is family-run, which showed in how smoothly the dog stay went — they provided a bowl, a basket and a list of vet contacts in town. The terrace let us eat outside with the dog every evening. Smaller, quieter and friendlier than the bigger Höheweg properties. Best value of the central pet-friendly hotels.

The HEY HOTEL
Höheweg
Very Good
180 reviews
The HEY HOTEL is a four-star design hotel on Höheweg with pet-friendly rooms (€15 per night, max two dogs), pet bowls provided and a small interior courtyard for quick dog breaks. Family rooms sleep two adults and two kids and accept dogs in the family configuration. 5-min walk to Höhematte park and 8 min to Interlaken West station.
From
€989/night
Why families love The HEY HOTEL
Five nights in March with our 7-year-old and a 12-kg working spaniel. The HEY's pet fee is the most reasonable in central Interlaken, and reception had pet bowls and a water dish in the room before we arrived. The interior courtyard worked for early-morning toilet breaks before the streets were busy. Family room had two single beds for the kid and a queen for us, dog crate fitted next to the wardrobe. Spaniel-proof for one trip, would book again.

Very Good
200 reviews
Royal St. Georges is a four-star MGallery heritage property on Höheweg dating from 1888, restored in 2014. Pets accepted at €30 per night with a maximum of one dog per room. Spa locker rooms, sauna and a relaxation lounge. The location puts you across the road from Höhematte park for morning dog walks.
From
€1046/night
Why families love Royal St. Georges Hotel Interlaken - MGallery Collection
Six nights in October with our 9-year-old and a 9-kg miniature schnauzer. The MGallery upgrade brought USB sockets and decent restaurant food, but the pet fee was the highest of our picks at €30 per night. The position across from Höhematte park is unbeatable for a daily 6am dog routine. The 9-year-old loved the heritage architecture and the in-house Swiss-Italian restaurant ran a children's menu till 9pm. Book the parc-side rooms — quieter than Höheweg-side.

Hotel Lötschberg
General-Guisan-Strasse
Very Good
220 reviews
Hotel Lötschberg is a three-star family hotel on General-Guisan-Strasse, a residential street one block back from Höheweg. Pets accepted at €20 per night. Carpeted rooms (so dogs claim a higher cleaning charge if shedding heavily), self-service breakfast buffet and a quiet street position for dogs that bark at traffic.
From
€864/night
Why families love Hotel Lötschberg
Three nights in spring with our 8-year-old and a 7-kg cocker spaniel. The Lötschberg's residential-street position made the morning walk routine feel less hectic than the central Höheweg hotels. Carpeted rooms meant we asked for a vacuum visit on day two (no extra charge). Family room was a triple with a cot space. Owner brought up a dog basket without asking. Cheaper than the four-stars and just as functional for a short pet trip.
💡Tips for booking pet-friendly hotels in Interlaken
- 1Pet fees in Interlaken run €15 to €30 per night. Confirm the rate at booking, ask whether it includes cleaning, and check whether the room comes with hardwood or carpet (carpet rooms charge more for shedding dogs).
- 2Request a ground-floor or low-floor room. Most pet-friendly hotels accept this without question, which means quicker walks at 6am and again at bedtime without a lift queue with a tired toddler and a cold dog.
- 3Pack a dog-mat or use the bath mat. Some Interlaken hotels are old buildings with parquet that scratches easily, and a dog claw without a mat will leave marks. Hotel Krebs and Bellevue offer a mat for €5.
- 4The 12 km lake circuit walk at Thun is the best half-day combination for kids, dog and parents. Train to Thun (15 min from Interlaken West), walk the lakefront promenade and ferry back from Beatenbucht to Interlaken Ost.
- 5Avoid the funicular up Harder Kulm with dogs over 10kg. Smaller dogs travel free in a carrier; larger dogs ride flat on the floor and the steep angle stresses them. Walk the path or take the longer Schynige Platte cog rail instead.
