A playground inside a hotel changes the trip in a small but real way. Mornings, you can sit by the pool with breakfast while the kids dig in the sand pit ten metres away. Afternoons, when the beach is too hot, the playground is shaded and easy. And the late slot before dinner, the dreaded 6 to 7 pm window, becomes the easy slot rather than the hard one.
The other thing playground hotels do well on Ibiza is mix age groups. We stayed for four nights with a 7-year-old and a 4-year-old. The playground is small but shaded and right next to the kids' pool, which means you can sit at the bar with one eye on both. Family rooms are simple but big enough for a cot. The breakfast is the weak point (basic buffet), but the location and the staff make up for it.

💡Booking Tips for Families with Toddlers and Tweens
- 1Pick the east coast (Cala Llenya, Es Cana, Santa Eularia) if your kids are under 6. The beaches there are shallow, the surf is small, and the playground hotels are walking distance from the sand.
- 2Avoid the south-west tip (San Antonio old town, Playa d'en Bossa central strip) at night. Music carries. The hotels we picked in those areas are deliberately on the calmer end of each bay, but you'll still want a room facing inland.
- 3Book half board, not all-inclusive, at the smaller 3-star and 4-star hotels. Ibiza has too many beach chiringuitos worth a long lunch. All-inclusive only makes sense at the big 5-star resorts.
- 4Bring water shoes for the kids. Most family beaches on Ibiza are a mix of sand and small flat rocks, fine to walk on but easier with shoes. Cala Llenya and Es Cana are sandiest.
