Family Hotels with Bike Rental on the Costa Brava
6 family-friendly hotels with bike rental in Costa Brava . Handpicked for families who want the best.
The Costa Brava has the best family cycling network of any Spanish coastal region: 125 km of Vies Verdes greenways converted from old railway lines, mostly flat, all paved, and connected to most of the resort towns by short ride-ins. Five hotels along the coast rent family bikes with child seats or trail-a-bikes from reception, so you can ride from check-in without driving anywhere first. Each one below has either direct access to a Via Verde or a flat seafront promenade you can ride with a six-year-old and not worry about traffic.
The Costa Brava is the rugged northern Catalan coastline running from Blanes north to the French border, with cliffs, pine-covered headlands, and small fishing coves rather than the long sandy stretches of the southern Spanish costas. It is significantly cooler than Costa del Sol and the family beaches are smaller, calmer, and frequently reached on foot rather than by shuttle. The cycling angle works because the coastal road is too winding for kids on bikes but the inland greenways are paved, flat, and properly signposted in three languages.

Why the Costa Brava is one of Spain's best family cycling regions
The Vies Verdes network is the headline. Three connected greenways, 125 km in total, run from Olot through Girona and out to Sant Feliu de Guixols on the coast. The southernmost section is the relevant one for these hotels: a 40 km flat path from Girona to the sea, with bike-fix stations every 8 km, drinking fountains, and shaded picnic spots maintained by the Catalan tourism board. With a six-year-old you cycle 8 to 10 km in a session, stop at a village for ice cream, and turn back. With older kids you can ride the entire 40 km in a day and take the bus home from the coast.
What changes between hotels is what you ride to once you leave the property. Hotels in Tossa, Roses, and Tamariu sit directly on a flat seafront promenade, so a 5-year-old can ride 2 to 3 km along the harbour without crossing a road. Hotels inland (Palafrugell, S'Agaró) connect to the Via Verde network via a short ride-in but the children need to be 7 plus to enjoy the full distance. The Empordà plain inland, which all five hotels can reach, is flat farmland with bike paths between vineyards and cherry orchards, plus a daily food market in towns like Pals, Peratallada, and Begur.
Parent's take
We did a week here last June with a 5 and 8 year old. The 5-year-old managed 6 km loops along the Tamariu seafront promenade without complaint, the 8-year-old did 22 km on the Via Verde from Sant Feliu inland, and we did all of it without putting bikes on a car. The hotels here are family-sized, not boutique, which is a feature not a bug when your kid wants a pool after a hot ride.

Can Mascort Eco Hotel
Palafrugell old town, 4 km from the Via Verde access point
Wonderful
462 reviews
A renovated 3-star eco hotel in the centre of Palafrugell with a small garden, a heated pool, and a bike rental desk that stocks adult bikes, kids' bikes from age 6, e-bikes, and child seats. Free helmets and a printed Empordà cycling map come with every rental.
From
€542/night
Why families love Can Mascort Eco Hotel
Can Mascort is the best base for families who want to ride the Via Verde properly. The hotel is small enough that the bike-rental staff know your kid's name by day three, the breakfast is a real Catalan spread you can take onto the garden tables, and Palafrugell town centre is car-free so the kids practice their bike skills before the longer rides. Trade-off: you are 3 km inland from the Tamariu coves, so the family pool gets a workout in the afternoons.

Canyelles Platja
Roses, beachfront on Canyelles Petites cove
Wonderful
1,625 reviews
A 4-star Roses beachfront hotel on the smaller Canyelles Petites cove, with a pool deck above the sea, a kids buffet at lunch, and an in-house bike rental that includes child seats and trailers. The hotel sits at the start of the 12 km Roses seafront ring, all flat.
From
€209/night
Why families love Canyelles Platja
Canyelles Platja delivers the simplest version of Costa Brava family cycling. You walk out the door, get the bikes from the kiosk, and ride the seafront ring with the kids without ever crossing a busy road. The hotel itself is a 1980s-style block, not boutique, but the rooms are sea-facing and the pool is big enough that the kids can swim while you rinse off salt. Best for families with younger children who want everything on one site.

Gran Hotel Reymar
Tossa de Mar, on Mar Menuda beach
Excellent
2,707 reviews
A 4-star superior beachfront hotel on Mar Menuda in Tossa de Mar, with a heated saltwater pool, sea-view rooms, and a bike rental partnership with the local Tossa cycling shop that delivers bikes (including kids' sizes and trail-a-bikes) to reception each morning.
From
€392/night
Why families love Gran Hotel Reymar
Reymar gives families the iconic Tossa medieval-walled-town backdrop plus the easiest seafront cycling on the southern Costa Brava. The 3 km flat promenade from Mar Menuda round the bay to Vila Vella is signposted as bike-friendly and works for kids from 5. The hotel is family-sized rather than boutique, with a buzzy buffet and a kids' meal time at 6.30pm. Trade-off: Tossa is busy in August. Book the half-board package and skip the worst evening crowds.

Hotel Hostalillo by Escampa Hotels
Tamariu, on the cliff above Cala Tamariu cove
Excellent
3,411 reviews
A 3-star clifftop hotel above the tiny Tamariu cove, with sea-view rooms, a panoramic pool, and a small bike rental fleet (8 bikes including kids' sizes) for riding the flat back-road to neighbouring Aiguablava and Llafranc coves.
From
€274/night
Why families love Hotel Hostalillo by Escampa Hotels
Hostalillo is the smallest hotel on this list and the calmest cycling pick, perfect for families with newer riders. Tamariu has 200 metres of beach and not much else, which is the appeal: kids can ride freely on the small back-road to Aiguablava with almost no traffic. The clifftop pool is the visual showstopper. Trade-off: the hotel pre-dates lift culture and rooms are reached by stairs, so request a low floor if you have a buggy.

S'Agaró Hotel Spa & Wellness
S'Agaró, on Sant Pol beach at the southern terminus of the Via Verde
Excellent
2,798 reviews
A 4-star spa hotel directly on Sant Pol beach in S'Agaró, with sea-view pools, a spa with kids access from age 6, and a bike rental desk that sits at the southern terminus of the 40 km Via Verde greenway running inland to Girona.
From
€191/night
Why families love S'Agaró Hotel Spa & Wellness
S'Agaró is the strongest pick for families who actually want to ride the full Via Verde. The greenway literally starts at the back gate of the hotel, the kids' bikes come from a separate small fleet (so the right size is usually available), and the spa has a kids' wellness session in the afternoons. The hotel is a bigger property with conference traffic in shoulder seasons, so request a sea-view room well in advance.

Caprici Beach Hotel & Spa
Santa Susanna Beach
Very Good
1,586 reviews
Caprici Beach Hotel & Spa sits directly on Santa Susanna's wide sandy beach, 16 km from Water World in Lloret de Mar - around a 25-minute drive. The 4-star property has a year-round outdoor pool, beachfront sun terrace, on-site spa and a serious bicycle rental setup for the GR-92 coastal trail. Family rooms are spacious for the price.
From
€666/night
Why families love Caprici Beach Hotel & Spa
Families pick Caprici for the beach-first holiday with one or two water-park days bolted on. Parents report the pool deck is a real draw - shaded sections, safe shallow zone, and evening entertainment that's not overdone. Reviews flag the Water World drive as longer than expected during August Saturdays; mid-week trips are the smarter call here.
💡Booking tips for cycling holidays on the Costa Brava
- 1Book the kids bikes when you book the room. The hotel reception keeps maybe four to eight children's bikes in stock, and they go fast in July and August. Email a week ahead with your child's height in cm; the hotel will pre-set the saddle.
- 2Pack your own helmets if your kids are under 7. Hotel rental helmets fit older children fine, but the smallest sizes are sometimes oversize and a slipping helmet ruins a 10 km ride faster than a punctured tyre.
- 3Ride mornings only in July and August. The Empordà plain hits 32 to 35 degrees by midday and the Via Verde shade is intermittent. Start at 8am, ride till 11.30, lunch in a village, drive or train back, pool afternoon.
- 4Skip the bike trailer for kids over 4. The Via Verde is wide enough but the connecting roads to the hotels are not, and a trailer makes the short ride-in stressful. A child seat on an adult bike or a trail-a-bike works better.
- 5Use the seasonal bike-on-train service. Renfe Rodalies trains take bikes free outside peak hours and the Girona to Sant Feliu line follows the Via Verde. You can ride out, take the train back, and avoid the long drag home with tired kids.
