Family Hotels in Riga Near Playgrounds and Parks
6 family-friendly hotels with playground in Riga . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Riga doesn't have hotels with on-site playgrounds the way a Tyrolean resort does, but it has something almost as useful: a chain of central parks with proper public playgrounds within five minutes of every hotel below. Vermanes Park has a fenced toddler section. Esplanade has a brand-new climbing structure. Bastejkalna gets the swings most kids end up on. The five hotels here all sit within easy walking distance of at least one of these, and one (Riga Lux Skolas) has a real indoor play area in-building, which earns its place on the list outright. We've used the Vermanes Park playground three times with our kids and the proximity matters: it lets a tired parent retreat to the hotel while the other watches the kids run off energy.
Riga with kids is more rewarding than parents expect. The Art Nouveau quarter is genuinely interesting for older kids, the Old Town is small enough to do in two hours, the Central Market has cheap berries and strange smells that fascinate seven-year-olds, and the parks form a continuous green strip you can walk for an hour without crossing a busy road. The riverside has bike paths and the train to Jurmala beach takes 30 minutes.

π°Why these Riga hotels work for families with playground-age kids
Vermanes Park is the standout. The fenced toddler section is just inside the southwest corner, with low slides, baby swings, a sandpit, and benches that get morning sun. Older kids head to the larger play area near the National Opera entrance. Toilets are at the park edge, ice cream is sold at the old kiosk all summer, and three of the hotels below are five-minute walks away.
Esplanade Park, behind the Latvian National Museum of Art, has a newer playground installed in 2023 with rope climbing, slides built into a small hill, and a proper toddler zone with rubber surface. It's quieter than Vermanes during weekday mornings. Bastejkalna Park, between the Old Town and the Freedom Monument, has the swings most kids gravitate to plus a stream with ducks. Three of the hotels here are within five minutes of all three parks at once.
Parent's take
We stayed at the Skolas apartments with a 4-year-old who refused to sit still. The indoor play corner saved one rainy afternoon. The Vermanes Park toddler section saved every other afternoon. Honest takeaway: location near these parks beats any hotel-internal playground in the city.

Riga Lux Apartments - Skolas
Skolas Street, Centrs
Wonderful
850 reviews
These four-star apartments on Skolas Street offer the only dedicated games room of any Riga property we found, with a proper layout for billiards, board games and family time after a museum-heavy day. Family rooms include full kitchens with washing machines, dining tables and high chairs - useful for picky-eater toddlers and laundry between Baltic stops.

Why families love Riga Lux Apartments - Skolas
The games room makes this place. Our kids spent two rainy afternoons playing Cluedo and shooting pool while we worked through the museum guides. The kitchen meant we cooked a Latvian smoked-fish dinner from the Centraltirgus market without dressing for restaurants. Walk to the old town is 12 minutes through quiet, leafy streets. Reception is multilingual and used to families - they had a high chair waiting at check-in without us asking. The 9.6 rating is real.

Riga Lux Apartments - Ernesta
Ernesta Birznieka-UpΔ«Ε‘a iela / 7-min walk to Esplanade Park
Wonderful

Sister property to Skolas with the same quality but quieter location and free parking. Apartments include high chairs, kids' meal options, and babysitting through the central agency. Esplanade Park playground is seven minutes northwest.

Why families love Riga Lux Apartments - Ernesta
Free parking is a real win in central Riga (street parking is a maze of zones). Apartment was fully equipped including a high chair set up before arrival. Babysitting was organised in 24 hours. The Esplanade walk is leafy and traffic-light. Small downside: no on-site play area like Skolas has.

Aston Hotel Riga
Skolas iela / 5-min walk to Vermanes Park
Wonderful
3,468 reviews
A modern four-star with a kid-friendly buffet, kids' meals on the dinner menu, and triple rooms that genuinely fit two adults and a child without feeling cramped. The Vermanes Park playground is five minutes south, the Old Town is ten minutes west.

Why families love Aston Hotel Riga
Quiet rooms even on the front side, breakfast buffet had cucumber sticks and pancakes for the kids alongside the standard hot options, and triple beds were proper full-size beds not pull-outs. Reception will lend a stroller and prints walking maps with the playgrounds marked. Solid.

Why families love Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel, Riga
The 25th-floor spa is the gimmick that's actually amazing. You sauna with a panoramic view of the spires, then come back down to a family room where the kids have already plundered the kid-friendly buffet. We loved the location for Jurmala day trips: train station is 4 minutes away, beach 30 minutes after that. Skytower restaurant has a low-key kids' menu and the elevator alone entertains four-year-olds.

Monika Centrum Hotels
Old Town / 8-min walk to Bastejkalna Park
Excellent
4,570 reviews
An old-town four-star with kid-friendly buffet, kids' meals at dinner, and family rooms that fit four. Bastejkalna Park's swings are eight minutes north and the bigger Vermanes playground is fifteen minutes east. Decent value for an Old Town location.

Cobblestones outside meant the stroller bumped a lot but the location is unbeatable for first-time Riga families. Breakfast had pancakes and fresh fruit kids actually ate. Family room fit two adults and two kids comfortably with a small living area. Walls are old-building thick, so quiet at night.

Wellton Riga Hotel & SPA
Centre
Excellent

Wellton Riga Hotel & SPA is a 4-star hotel two blocks from the old town, with a full spa centre, indoor playground, kid-friendly buffet, and family rooms. Walking distance to most museums and the central market.

Why families love Wellton Riga Hotel & SPA
The standout for families with kids 4 to 8 β there's an indoor playground in the lobby that runs to 8pm, the buffet has a separate kids' line at lower height, and the spa runs a daily 14:00-16:00 family window with games in the relaxation area. The room was a connecting double-and-twin with bunk-bed lighting that meant the eight-year-old read until late without disturbing us.
π‘Booking tips for parents staying near Riga's parks
- 1The Vermanes Park toddler section is the only fenced playground in central Riga. Worth the five-minute walk from any of these hotels even if you're staying somewhere else.
- 2Public bathrooms in the parks close around 8pm. Plan your toilet logistics or use a hotel bathroom before evening park visits.
- 3Riga summers have long daylight hours in June and July (sunset 10pm). Kids can comfortably play till 8 or 9pm but the playgrounds get loud after work hours.
- 4Apartments with kitchens (like Riga Lux) save real money on a city break with small kids. Five days of breakfast, lunch and snacks at home easily covers half the apartment cost.
- 5The 30-minute train to Jurmala beach is a hit with older kids when Riga gets too urban. Get tickets at the central station, runs hourly.
