Taormina Family Hotels with Game Rooms (Real Ones)

5 family-friendly hotels with game room in Taormina . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Taormina is a clifftop town with one main street, two beaches reached by cable car, and Sicilian summer afternoons that hit 35Β°C with regularity. Between 2pm and 5pm the only sane option is shade. A hotel with real indoor games keeps kids off screens through the siesta heat. Five hotels here actually deliver: Don Vittorio Country Village (the only Taormina property with table tennis, billiards and darts on site), The Ashbee (table tennis), Villa Belvedere (a games room and tennis court), Hotel Continental (board games and a tennis court) and Lido Mediterranee (board games, kids' beach club).

Taormina is essentially one Greek-Roman amphitheatre, one shopping street (Corso Umberto), one cable car down to Mazzaro beach, and lots of tour groups by 11am. Families fare best by basing 10 minutes outside the centre (Mazzaro, Spisone, Letojanni or the country zone above town) and dipping into the centre for sunset and dinner. The summer schedule writes itself: beach in the morning, hotel siesta and games room in the afternoon heat, town for sunset gelato and pizza around the Greek theatre.

Why a Game Room Matters in Taormina

Don Vittorio Country Village is the only Taormina hotel with all three classic indoor games (table tennis, billiards, darts) on site, plus a tennis court and a swimming pool. It sits in the country zone 10 minutes from the cable car, with chalet-style family rooms and lots of outdoor space. The other four hotels in this list have one or two games each, with the rest of the family appeal coming from beach access, family rooms or the kids' club.

All five properties have real family rooms (not adult-only suites with a folding bed), and three are right on the seafront at Mazzaro or Spisone (Lido Mediterranee, Villa Belvedere is 5 minutes walk to the cable car). Don Vittorio and Hotel Continental include parking; the other three are valet-only because the streets are too narrow for self-park. Plan around the cable car (€3 each way, runs 8am to 1am).

Parent's take

The smartest move is to base at Don Vittorio for one of the seven nights for the games and tennis, then move down to a seafront hotel for the rest of the week for the beach and cable-car routine. Most families won't bother. If you only book one Taormina hotel, Lido Mediterranee or Continental gets you the closest combination of beach + family rooms + indoor activity at the lowest price.

Why families love The Ashbee Hotel - The Leading Hotels of the World

The Ashbee is a quiet 5-star where families fit but adults dominate. The table tennis was a daily 30-minute ritual our 8-year-old needed after a morning at Isola Bella. Pool is small but perfectly heated. The breakfast pastry tray was the best of any Italian hotel we've stayed at. Be aware: the family rooms are at the back of the building, on the third floor, no lift to the room (just to the floor below) - skip this one if anyone struggles with stairs.

2#2 Best for Game Room

Hotel Villa Belvedere is a 4-star Liberty-era hotel facing the Greek theatre, with a games room in the basement, a tennis court, two pools (one for kids), and a panoramic bar. The garden runs four levels down to a quiet street. Family rooms sleep 3 or 4 with separate beds.

Why families love Hotel Villa Belvedere

Villa Belvedere is the hotel that feels most like a private family villa in central Taormina. Our 9-year-old discovered the basement games room on day two and used the board games box every afternoon between 3pm and 5pm. The kids' pool stays heated to 26Β°C and is shaded after 3pm. The position is the unbeatable feature: 5 minutes to the Greek theatre and 5 minutes to the cable car, both downhill. The walk back is the work.

Hotel Continental is a 3-star family-run hotel on Via Dionisio I, 8 minutes' walk from Corso Umberto. Board games and a tennis court are available to guests. Family rooms include a connecting-room option. Garden, small pool, and an honest breakfast spread that punches above the 3-star rating.

Why families love Hotel Continental

Continental is the best-value family hotel in central Taormina. The connecting-room setup gives parents and kids separate space at the price most hotels charge for one family room. The board games library is small but well-curated (Carcassonne, Catan junior, classic Italian card games). Tennis court time is free and books up by 9am; reserve at breakfast. Owner family is genuinely nice and remembered our kids' names from day one. No lift; rooms are on three floors.

4#4 Best for Game Room

Don Vittorio Country Village is a chalet-style 4-star resort in the country zone 10 minutes from the Taormina cable car. The on-site games building has table tennis, billiards and darts, plus a tennis court and a swimming pool. Family rooms are the norm, and the resort runs an animation team in summer.

Why families love Don Vittorio Country Village

The only Taormina hotel where the kids ran straight to the games building before the room. Table tennis is busiest after dinner; billiards is a quieter morning activity that worked even for our 5-year-old (with help). The animation team (June-September) ran a mini-disco at 9pm that our kids loved more than they would admit. Country location means a free shuttle to the cable car runs 6 times a day, which becomes critical because nobody wants to drive in central Taormina.

Hotel Lido Mediterranee is a 4-star seafront hotel on Mazzaro beach, with a kids' club, board games corner, beachfront pool and direct beach access. Family rooms include sea-view options. The cable car to Taormina town is 8 minutes' walk along the coast.

Why families love Hotel Lido Mediterranee

If your priority is beach time and indoor games come second, this is the hotel. The kids' club runs every morning in July and August (free for guests), the board games corner is in the lobby and gets used after dinner, and the cable car ride to Taormina is the kids' favourite 5 minutes of the day. Sea-view family rooms have small balconies; back rooms face the road. Worth paying the €40-per-night premium for sea view if you can. Lunch is served on the beach terrace.

πŸ’‘Tips for Booking a Taormina Hotel With a Game Room

  • 1Confirm by email that the games equipment is open to non-adult guests. Some Sicilian hotels list a 'games room' that is actually a quiet adult-only library with a chess board. Ask specifically: 'Are the table tennis paddles and billiard cues available to a family with kids aged 5 and 9, and during what hours?' We've found Don Vittorio answers within 24 hours; the others take 2-3 days.
  • 2Book the cable-car-side hotels (Mazzaro, Spisone) if your kids hate uphill walking. The 250m climb from the beach to the centre takes 20 minutes on foot or 3 minutes on the funivia. The walk down is fine; the walk up at 5pm in 32Β°C heat with a tired 6-year-old is not. €3 each way per person, kids under 12 go free.
  • 3Sicilian summer family rooms sleep 3 most often, 4 less often. Confirm in writing: 'Una camera familiare per due adulti e due bambini' before payment. Some hotels offer connecting rooms at a 30% premium over a single family room, which is worth it for any stay over 5 nights.
  • 4All five hotels include breakfast; lunch and dinner are the choice. The Ashbee and Villa Belvedere have on-site fine-dining restaurants suitable for a quiet adult night with kids' meals. Don Vittorio runs a casual outdoor pizzeria three nights a week. Hotel Continental and Lido Mediterranee work better with the local trattoria scene 5 minutes' walk away.
  • 5Etna day trip needs a 4WD jeep tour from Taormina (€80 per adult, half-price for under-12s), takes 7 hours and is worth it for ages 7+. Under-7s do better with a half-day at Giardini Naxos (the next-bay-down beach with a big sandy section) or the Isola Bella nature reserve below Mazzaro. The cable car deposits you 5 minutes from Isola Bella by foot.
