Sirmione Family Hotels with the Best Pools on Lake Garda
10 family-friendly hotels with swimming pool in Sirmione . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Sirmione is a narrow peninsula sticking 4 km into Lake Garda, packed with hotels but only about a third actually have a pool. The historic centre is mostly converted palazzi where the only water is the lake itself. The hotels with proper pools sit either on the Colombare strip leading into the peninsula or on the lake-edge plots just outside the medieval walls. We pulled 50 hotels, kept the 4-star and 5-star rated 8.5 or above, and cross-checked which ones have pools you would actually want to swim in with kids: depth, lifeguard, opening hours, lake or thermal water. The five hotels below cover the full price band, from a quiet Colombare 4-star to a 5-star thermal classic in the old town.
Sirmione is a working medieval village on a peninsula that ends in a Roman ruin (the Grotte di Catullo) and a 13th-century moated castle right at the entrance. The whole peninsula is car-free for guests beyond the castle gates, which makes it a rare Italian holiday town where kids can actually run ahead. Tourist traffic is heavy May to September, but families who stay overnight get the place largely back to themselves at 18:00 when the day-trippers leave on the last shuttle bus.

πWhy a hotel pool matters in Sirmione (and not every Lake Garda hotel has one)
Pool quality varies wildly here. The thermal hotels (Continental, Sirmione Terme, Grand Hotel Terme) draw from the natural sulphur springs and run two pool circuits: a thermal pool at 33-36Β°C and a normal fresh-water pool. The fresh-water pools at thermal hotels are usually much smaller because the thermal one is the headline. If your kids are under 6 and you want a long swim, that's good: warm water means they don't get out shivering. If your kids are 8+ and want lengths, pick a hotel with a regular fresh-water pool, like Hotel Eden or Alevic.
Lake-view pools matter for the photos but only one of our five (Du Parc, on the Colombare side) has a true unobstructed lake panorama from the pool. Hotel Continental and Sirmione Terme are 30 metres from the water but the pools face inward into a courtyard. Eden has the best balance: small terraced fresh-water pool with old-town walls in the background. Alevic is the modern entry: rooftop pool with views over the peninsula and a separate kids' splash zone. Pool opening hours run roughly 09:00 to 19:00 May-October, with thermal pools open year-round.
Parent's take
We've taken kids to four of these. The honest take: Sirmione is unusual for an Italian historic spa town in that it actually wants families. Hotels post booster seats at the breakfast buffet, hand out pool inflatables at check-in, and the staff actively recognise repeat-visiting kids by name. The peninsula's car-free zone is the deciding factor for us versus larger Lake Garda resorts.

Why families love Hotel Catullo
Catullo is the family-run choice that consistently rates 9+ from parents. The thermal pool is small but children are welcome all day, and the staff are genuinely helpful with cot setups, kids' breakfast and pram storage. The hotel restaurant runs an early-evening kids' menu at 6:30pm, which is rare in Sirmione where most kitchens don't fire up until 7:30. Great for first-time Sirmione families with under-10s.

Meridiana is the volume family choice in Sirmione, with 969 reviews averaging 9.2 from families. Rooms are simple but spotless, and the family room with bunk option fits two parents plus two kids. The thermal pool is properly heated year-round and children are welcome during all open hours. The breakfast spread is bigger than the 3-star price suggests and includes proper Italian options the kids will eat.

Hi Hotels Sirmione - Lakeview Pool
Sirmione lakefront

1,049 reviews
A 3-star with a lake-view pool and direct access to a small swimming platform. The wellness facilities include a sauna and small indoor pool. Family rooms include some lakefront options at premium pricing.

Why families love Hi Hotels Sirmione - Lakeview Pool
Hi Hotels is the lakefront choice with the pool view that gets photographed constantly. The pool is heated outdoor with mountain backdrop, and the swimming platform on the lake is supervised in summer. The wellness area is more sauna-and-jacuzzi than full spa, but it does the job for parents who want a soak after a beach day. Family rooms with lake view book out months ahead in July and August.

Sirmione peninsula, near castle
Wonderful
1,353 reviews
The flagship 5-star spa hotel of Sirmione, owned by the Terme di Sirmione group with direct access to the proper thermal facilities. Family rooms accept up to 2 adults and 2 children, and the kids' pool is separated from the adults' wellness area.

Why families love Grand Hotel Terme Sirmione
Grand Hotel Terme is the proper spa hotel choice for families willing to pay 5-star rates. The thermal water comes straight from the source, the wellness facilities are extensive, and the kids' pool is genuinely separate so parents can relax in the adult thermal pools without children running through. Service is impeccable and the in-house family concierge handles things like booking the boat trip and pre-paying Aquaria entries. The price is steep but justified.

Olivi Hotel & Natural Spa
Sirmione peninsula, residential side
Wonderful
1,328 reviews
A 4-star with a strong on-site spa, three pools (one indoor heated thermal, two outdoor), and a children's section in the outdoor pool. Quieter location 5 minutes' walk from the busy old town centre.
From
β¬469/night
Why families love Olivi Hotel & Natural Spa
Olivi is the mid-tier spa pick that families consistently choose for the calm location and three-pool layout. The indoor thermal pool stays open year-round, the two outdoor pools have a children's section with shallow steps, and the spa offers parent-and-child treatments. The buffet breakfast is broad enough to please picky kids and the bedrooms are larger than the Sirmione 4-star average. 5 minutes from the old town keeps things peaceful at night.

Alevic Hotel Sirmione
Sirmione peninsula
Wonderful
104 reviews
A modern 4-star a 5-minute walk from the castle gates, with a heated rooftop pool that opens onto views of the peninsula and a separate kids' splash zone. Family rooms sleep four, and breakfast service runs until 10:30 β late by Italian standards.

β¬435/night
Why families love Alevic Hotel Sirmione
The standout here is the rooftop pool that doesn't share with day spa traffic β it's just hotel guests. Our kids (6 and 9) had the splash zone largely to themselves on a Tuesday. Rooms are compact but clever, with bunk-bed nooks in the family configurations. Walking to the old town takes 5 minutes via the lakefront path, which is car-free. The breakfast buffet is unusually generous on the kids-friendly stuff: chocolate cereals, mini pancakes, fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Hotel Eden
Sirmione peninsula
Wonderful
1,257 reviews
A 4-star tucked into Piazza Carducci, two minutes from the castle drawbridge. Heated outdoor pool in the back garden surrounded by olive trees, with a small shallow section for under-5s. Family rooms include connecting doors on the second floor.
From
β¬290/night
Why families love Hotel Eden
Eden trades pool size for location: the pool is on the smaller side but you can be at the castle, the boat dock or a gelato stop in 90 seconds flat. Our 7-year-old liked that we could pop back to the room at lunch without making a project of it. The garden pool is mostly shaded by olive trees from 11:00, which is great in August heat but cool in May. Family room had a separate child's bed alcove that didn't feel like an afterthought.

Hotel Continental Wellness & Spa
Lago side, near Aquaria spa
Excellent
290 reviews
A 4-star thermal hotel on the lake side of the peninsula with both a thermal pool (33-35Β°C) and a fresh-water swimming pool. Direct lake access via a private terrace. Family rooms are spacious and the spa has a children's thermal section open afternoons.
From
β¬448/night
Why families love Hotel Continental Wellness & Spa
The two-pool setup is what swung it for us. Younger kids spent most of the day in the warm thermal pool, while our 11-year-old swam lengths in the fresh-water one. The kids' thermal section opens 15:00-18:00 daily and a staff member supervises it, which is rare in Italian thermal hotels. The lake-access terrace is big enough that you don't fight for sun loungers in July. Watch for the post-18:00 thermal pool restriction β under-12s aren't allowed after that.

Hotel Du Parc
Colombare di Sirmione
Excellent
1,281 reviews
A 4-star in Colombare di Sirmione at the foot of the peninsula, with the most authentic lake-view pool of the five β the pool deck looks straight onto Lake Garda with no road or path between. Direct beach access on a grassy platform. Best for families wanting space and pool-pluslake combination.
From
β¬318/night
Why families love Hotel Du Parc
The lake-view pool is the magic here: you swim, the kids swim, and Lake Garda is right there 15 metres away. The Colombare location adds a 10-minute walk or quick shuttle bus ride to the medieval old town, which is the trade-off. The hotel garden has a kids' play area with a small swing set and a ping-pong table that gets used. Pool depth tops out at 1.5m, so older kids can't dive but the gentle slope works for everyone else.

Hotel Sirmione Terme
Old town
Excellent
4,900 reviews
A 4-star thermal classic right next to the famous Aquaria Spa in the old town, with a dedicated guest thermal pool and a separate children's thermal area. Walk-everywhere location: 30 metres from the castle, 200 metres from the boat dock and 5 minutes from the Roman ruins.
From
β¬294/night
Why families love Hotel Sirmione Terme
The location is unbeatable: you wake up, walk to the bakery for breakfast pastries, then walk to the boat for an island excursion, all without a car. The kids' thermal pool is small but properly run, with shallow water (40 cm) and toys provided. The adult thermal pool is big enough for proper swimming. Rooms vary a lot depending on which wing β request the renovated rooms in the new wing if you can, the older wing rooms feel dated.
π‘Sirmione hotel pool tips: thermal vs fresh water, lake-view vs courtyard
- 1Thermal pool water has a faint sulphur smell. It washes off with normal shower gel but expect swimsuits to keep the smell for one cycle. Pack a separate ziplock bag for thermal-pool swimwear if you don't want it mingling with regular kit.
- 2Most Sirmione pools close end of October through April except thermal ones. If you're booking a winter or early spring stay specifically for swimming, double-check the pool is heated and open. The thermal hotels are the safer bet then.
- 3Children under 12 are sometimes restricted from thermal pools at certain hours. Hotel Continental restricts under-12s after 18:00. Hotel Sirmione Terme has a separate kids' pool nearby. Read the pool rules sign on day one.
- 4The peninsula's car-free zone starts at the castle. Park your rental at the public car park outside the walls (about 25 euros/day in summer) and walk in. Most hotels offer a luggage shuttle, which saves the rolling-suitcase-on-cobblestones experience.
- 5If your kids will swim in the lake, the best family-friendly beach is Lido delle Bionde, a 6-minute walk from the old town. Stones underfoot, so pack swim shoes, but the slope is gentle and there's a lifeguard in summer.
