Best Hotels with Pools in Budapest for Families (2026)

9 family-friendly hotels with swimming pool in Budapest . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Budapest is famous for its thermal baths, but here is the reality for families in 2026: Széchenyi Baths now bans children under 14, Rudas does the same, and Gellért is closed for renovation until 2028. If you are visiting Budapest with kids and want them to actually swim, your best option is a hotel with its own pool. The five hotels below all have indoor pools ranging from 10m to 17m, with prices from 170 to 482 EUR per night for a family of four. Most pools are heated year-round and open to kids without age restrictions. We checked every one against Booking.com data to confirm prices, ratings, and real guest reviews. Whether you want a spa hotel in Budapest with thermal water piped straight from Margaret Island or a boutique rooftop spot steps from St. Stephen's Basilica, this page has the facts you need to book the right room.

Pest is where you want to stay with kids. District V (Belváros) puts you within walking distance of the Danube promenade, the Central Market Hall, and tram 2, which runs along the river past Parliament for the price of a 350 HUF ticket. Skip District VII at night as that is the ruin bar party zone. The M1 metro (yellow line) runs from Vörösmarty tér to City Park in 8 minutes, where kids can ride the Children's Railway, see the zoo, and explore Vajdahunyad Castle. Strollers work fine on trams and the metro; every station on M4 has lifts. For eating out, VakVarjú on Újlipótváros has a kids' corner, high chairs, and a changing table. Budget about 4,000-5,000 HUF (11-14 EUR) per adult main course.

🏊Why Budapest pool hotels are a smarter bet than the thermal baths

Pool sizes in Budapest hotels range from 10 to 17 metres. The Ensana Thermal Margaret Island has the largest pool complex with a 17m swimming pool fed by the island's own thermal spring, plus a seasonal outdoor pool and separate thermal pools. The Verdi Budapest Aquincum on the Buda side also draws on thermal water for its indoor pool and hot tubs. At the smaller end, the Mamaison Chain Bridge has a 13m pool in a basement spa, compact but well maintained and rarely crowded.

Most hotel pools in Budapest are open from 7:00 to 21:00 or 22:00. Kids can swim at any age, though children under 14 cannot use thermal pools hotter than 35°C at the Ensana properties, a Hungarian health regulation. The recreational pools at those hotels stay at 28-30°C and have no age limit. If you are visiting in summer, the Ensana also opens its outdoor pool from June to September.

The thermal bath ban on under-14s took effect in August 2025 at Széchenyi and Rudas. Families with younger children now have two real options: hotel pools or the Palatinus Strand on Margaret Island, a public outdoor complex with wave pools and slides open in summer. In winter, hotel pools are essentially the only game in town for kids.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Parent's take

We spent four nights in Budapest with a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old. By day two, after walking from the Castle to the Market Hall and back, the kids declared they were done sightseeing. The hotel pool saved the trip. We fell into a rhythm of mornings out exploring, then pool from 3pm until dinner. The thermal water at the Ensana was noticeably warmer and softer than a regular chlorine pool, which the kids loved. One thing I wish I had known: the public thermal baths really do not let kids in anymore. We walked to Széchenyi planning a family afternoon and got turned away at the gate. Book a hotel with a pool and avoid that disappointment.

Why families love Aria Hotel Budapest by Library Hotel Collection

This is a splurge, no question. But the Aria earned it. The pool in the Harmony Spa is small at 10 metres, but heated and open 7am to 10pm, so we never struggled for a quiet slot. The music theme runs through everything, each floor named after a genre, and our kids got a kick out of figuring out which was which. Location is unbeatable: the Basilica is literally next door and the Danube a 5-minute walk. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace with views over the city made the price sting less.

Why families love Mamaison Hotel Chain Bridge Budapest

Perfect location if you want to be between Buda and Pest. The Chain Bridge is literally outside the door, and Castle Hill is a 15-minute walk across. The indoor pool is small but heated and our kids had it mostly to themselves in the morning. Steam room and sauna are the real draw for parents. Rooms are modern, breakfast is solid. The spa is not huge but everything works and the staff are attentive. Great mid-range option if you want spa amenities without the luxury price tag.

Why families love Kozmo Hotel Suites & Spa

The pool was the highlight for our kids. At 16 metres it's big enough for actual swimming, not just splashing. We booked a family suite with connecting rooms so the kids could sleep while we went back down to the spa. The hammam was genuinely excellent. Staff brought colouring books to the restaurant without being asked. Only downside: no kids' menu at dinner, but portions are generous enough to share.

Why families love Mamaison Hotel Chain Bridge Budapest

Location sold us on the Mamaison, and the pool was a bonus. The 13m pool downstairs is small but clean and never crowded, we often had it to ourselves. The connecting suites were a game changer: kids in one room, us in the other, and we could still hear them through the door. Walking to Parliament, the Basilica, and the tram 2 stop took five minutes. Staff were patient with our kids, which counts for a lot.

Why families love Kozmo Hotel Suites & Spa

The Kozmo felt like a real treat. The pool area is underground but beautifully lit, and the lap pool is long enough for an actual swim. Our kids loved the Turkish bath, which was a new experience for them. Connecting rooms meant we had privacy after bedtime. The Palace Quarter is residential and quiet, with a playground in the square below. Walking to the Market Hall took 10 minutes. Breakfast was exceptional but at 355 EUR a night, you would expect it to be.

Why families love Danubius Hotel Helia

The kids' pool is shallow and warm, perfect for a toddler who was terrified of the big pool. The playground area is basic but the restaurant play corner saved dinner. Real advantage here is the location: Margaret Island is free, flat, and has the best playground in Budapest. We walked there every morning before 9am when it was empty. The hotel's spa complex has family hours until 3pm.

Why families love Ensana Thermal Margaret Island

We booked three nights for a summer trip and the kids practically lived in the pool. The 17m indoor pool was warm enough that even our cautious 5-year-old jumped right in. Margaret Island itself is a giant playground: no cars, just paths to cycle and run on. The breakfast buffet was enormous and kept the kids fuelled until lunch. Only gripe: the room could have used a refresh, but at 170 EUR you cannot complain.

Why families love Corinthia Budapest

This was our splurge hotel and it delivered. The Royal Spa pool area felt like swimming in a palace. Kids were wide-eyed at the stained-glass ceiling. Babysitting service meant we got one adults-only evening at the spa while the kids were looked after. The kid-friendly buffet breakfast was the best we had in Budapest.

Why families love Verdi Budapest Aquincum

We chose the Verdi for the thermal spa and were not disappointed. The indoor pool is the right size for kids to splash while adults relax in the jacuzzi next door. The Óbuda location is quieter than central Pest, which suited us fine. Tram 1 to the centre takes 15 minutes. The Aquincum Roman ruins are a 5-minute walk and our 8-year-old was genuinely fascinated. Breakfast had a good spread but the hotel shows its age in some of the rooms.

💡How to choose the right Budapest hotel with a pool

  • 1Book a hotel on Margaret Island if you want the best pool access. The Ensana Thermal Margaret Island has 6 pools including thermal, recreational, and a seasonal outdoor pool. The island itself is car-free with playgrounds, running tracks, and the Palatinus Strand water park in summer.
  • 2Check your hotel pool's temperature policy. Hungarian regulations ban children under 14 from water above 35°C. All five hotels listed here have recreational pools at 26-30°C that kids can use freely, but the thermal soaking pools at the Ensana properties are adults-only or require a medical note for children.
  • 3Get a Budapest Card (72 hours, about 70 EUR per adult, free for kids under 6). It covers unlimited public transport, entry to Lukács Thermal Bath, Castle Hill, and 30+ museums. The 72-hour plus version adds a Danube river cruise.
  • 4The Verdi Budapest Aquincum on the Buda side is the best value if you want a pool plus a water park in Budapest. It is a 15-minute tram ride from the city centre but near the Aquincum Roman ruins, a genuinely interesting site for older kids.
  • 5If you are visiting in winter (November to March), every hotel on this list has an indoor heated pool. Summer visitors should also check the Palatinus Strand on Margaret Island, a massive outdoor pool complex with slides and a wave pool, entry about 4,500 HUF (12 EUR) per adult.
