Biarritz Hotels Near Golf Courses for Families
5 family-friendly hotels with golf in Biarritz . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Biarritz has been a golf town since 1888, when British aristocrats laid out the country's second-oldest course. Today there are six courses within 20 minutes of the seafront, several with junior programmes and family days. The trick when traveling with kids is finding a hotel that gives you tee-time access without committing to a 50-minute drive each morning. The five hotels below all sit within striking distance of at least two courses, offer family-friendly rooms, and are near beaches or playgrounds for the non-golfing parent. Photos and prices are from this season.
Biarritz is unusual: a Belle Époque seaside town with surf culture, basque tapas, and golf in equal measure. The Grande Plage is the social heart, with kids body-boarding while parents watch from the casino terrace. Up in the hills behind town, the golf courses sit among pine forests and ocean views. Locals call it the California of France, which is part marketing and part real. Mornings on a quiet course, afternoons on the beach with the family. That actually works here.

Why Biarritz Is a Real Family Golf Destination
Golf du Phare is the historic city course, just 10 minutes inland and the easiest to combine with a family-based stay. It runs juniors clinics every Wednesday morning in summer. The Chiberta course on the northern side is the most scenic, with holes that border the dunes. Newer Ilbarritz Training Centre has a kids' programme that drops off and picks up, freeing parents for 18 holes.
Outside golf, the Aquarium of Biarritz keeps kids happy on a rainy half-day. The Cité de l'Océan, just south of town, has surf simulators and an interactive ocean lab that 6-to-12-year-olds genuinely engage with. Plage du Port Vieux is the sheltered family beach, calmer than the Grande Plage and easier with toddlers. Walk down at sunset for the ice-cream queues.
For dinner, the area around Halles de Biarritz market has a dozen family-friendly bistros that all stay open until 10pm. Try Basque specialties like axoa (veal stew) or chipirons (squid). The fish and chips at Le Comptoir du Foie Gras is universally accepted by kids.
Parent's take
Tee times in summer get booked weeks ahead. If you want morning rounds, reserve before you leave home. Most courses rent clubs for adults and have junior sets in lighter weight; ours rented for 25 euros per round. Bring proof of handicap or be ready to play on the par-3 short course on day one.

Why families love Hotel Saint Julien
We picked this for the proximity to Golf du Phare and the price point. The walk to the first tee is genuinely 8 minutes. Family room had two queens and felt spacious. Breakfast was solid: cooked-to-order eggs, baguettes, espresso. The restaurant is small but staff are flexible with kids. Wi-Fi was patchy on our floor. Resident pets and kids share the small lounge area, which made for funny mornings. The owner organised our tee times by email before we arrived; everything was confirmed at check-in.

Why families love Le Gamaritz
An understated gem run by a couple who clearly love their work. The garden was the highlight for us: morning coffee while the kids watched the cats. Family room had a queen plus two singles, comfortable for a family of four. Walking to Plage Miramar is two minutes; to the Grande Plage about ten. We did one round at Chiberta in the morning and our 8-year-old took a beach surf lesson while the rest of us swam. Breakfast is small but excellent quality. Wi-Fi reliable. Owner suggested restaurants kids actually liked.

Why families love Hôtel Barnea
Position is everything here: walking distance to the beach, the casino, and a dozen kid-friendly restaurants. Family room had two doubles and was clean and modern, no surprises. Soundproofing is good on the upper floors but lower floors get street noise after midnight. The 10-minute drive to Golf du Phare is straightforward; we used Uber for early morning tee times. Breakfast is large and varied: salads, pastries, hot dishes. Reception staff speak English, Spanish, and German.

Roc Seven Biarritz

Four-star boutique with seaside design, 6 minutes' walk to Plage Miramar and 7 minutes' drive to Golf de Chiberta. Family suites with separate living area and a small spa with one wet treatment room. On-site bistro with kids' portions. Free parking with EV chargers.

Why families love Roc Seven Biarritz
The most polished option in our list, and the price reflects it. Family suite had a separate kids' room with bunks, which transformed bedtime routines. Bathroom was generous. The bistro is on the small side and gets fully booked by 7:30pm; reserve the same morning. Walking to the beach takes 6 minutes downhill, 8 minutes back up with a tired child. We played Chiberta and stopped at Halles de Biarritz market on the way back for picnic dinner. Staff went out of their way with allergy questions.

Résidence Biarritz Ocean
64200 Biarritz
Excellent
0 reviews
Four-star aparthotel residence near Anglet golf area, 8 minutes' drive to both Golf du Phare and Chiberta. Studio and 2-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and balconies. Outdoor pool, kids' splash zone, and a small playground in the residence garden. Self-check-in available.

€726/night
Why families love Résidence Biarritz Ocean
Choose the 2-bedroom layout if traveling with kids: separate bedrooms made evening tee-time planning manageable while the kids slept. The kitchenette is real (full fridge, induction cooktop, dishwasher), not a token. We cooked breakfast and one dinner. The outdoor pool is fenced and heated to 28 degrees; our kids spent hours there while we took turns at the practice range nearby. Driving to Chiberta is straight and short. Less character than a city hotel, considerably more practical with a family.
💡Five Practical Tips for Golfing With Kids in Tow
- 1Book tee times before you fly. Biarritz courses fill up by April for July and August. Pro shops accept email reservations with a credit card guarantee, and most allow free cancellation 48 hours ahead. Morning slots before 9am are easier to find than midday.
- 2Bring or rent junior clubs. Most courses rent adult sets, but junior gear is limited and rents out fast. Calling the pro shop a week ahead reserves a set in your child's size. Soft-cleat shoes are mandatory; sneakers are fine for kids under 12 on most courses.
- 3Plan parent-tag mornings. With one parent at the course and one at the beach, the day works. Hotels we list all have walkable beach access or shuttle, so the non-golfing parent doesn't need a car. Then swap roles after lunch and head out together.
- 4Pack rain layers. Biarritz weather flips fast: morning sun, afternoon Atlantic squall, sun by 5pm. Lightweight rain shells and a pair of dry socks per round save miserable last holes. Courses don't have indoor warm-up bays.
- 5Try a junior clinic instead of full rounds. Most local courses run 90-minute junior sessions for ages 7+ around 25 to 35 euros. Even one session lets a child say they played golf in France, and frees you for a real round while they're supervised.
