🌸 Barcelona in April with children
The complete family travel guide
April is arguably the smartest month to visit Barcelona with children. Temperatures sit between 9 °C and 16 °C, the sun shines 8 hours a day, and the city has not yet flipped into peak-season mode. You get the same monuments as in summer, with queues half the length and hotels 20 to 30 per cent cheaper. The Sagrada Familia at 9 am? You walk straight in. Park Güell? The mosaic terrace is almost empty. And if your trip falls on 23 April, you will experience Sant Jordi, Catalonia's most popular festival: the streets fill with roses, books and families.

Mornings are usually sunny and mild, ideal for open-air sightseeing. Showers tend to arrive in the late afternoon and rarely last longer than an hour. The sea breeze cools the waterfront in the evening: bring a windbreaker for Barceloneta.
Gaudí in spring: the best season for children

Spring is the ideal season to explore Gaudí's works with children. The Sagrada Familia can be visited without the summer crush: book the 9 am slot to enter among the first visitors and enjoy the hush under the tree-shaped columns. The stained glass throws intense colours across the nave and children are spellbound. Tickets: 26 EUR/adult, free for under-11s.
Park Güell is an architectural playground in the open air. The mosaic dragon captivates small children, the serpentine bench on the upper terrace delivers city-wide views, and the free section of the park offers walks beneath tilted columns. In April, spring flowers add extra colour to the already dazzling mosaics. Monumental zone: 10 EUR/adult, 7 EUR child 6-12.
